Harvest the sun.

Sun over Burkina Faso

Motivation

Solar energy is infinite and ubiquitous. The technology to harness the energy is affordable and efficient. Tiger-volt explores the emerging possibilities.

Burkina Faso is an energy rich country. According to data published by the World Bank Burkina Faso ranks among the countries with the highest photovoltaic power potential worldwide. Up to now this unfortunately remains insufficiently exploited.

As Ouagalais we are regularly stuck in the capital's traffic and wonder from time to time: "What if there were motorcycles without petrol fumes? What if they came without the noise of their engines? What if ...?" These speculations led us to the idea of testing electric motorcycles on the streets of Ouaga. And this deliberation finally became a reality. The results of the tests convinced us: We were intrigued by the silent motor, the absence of petrol fumes and the immediate acceleration. In short, the electric motorcycle offers us the facility of driving with fluid ease.

For a better understanding and to get to know different opinions, the first users were invited to participate in a survey. The enthusiastic, sometimes even exuberant reactions, showed that there is sufficient interest in this technology. The tests were convincing because the bikes were not only easy to ride but also easy to handle. The motorcycle fits into the daily routine and is recharged at night by simply connecting it to the standard socket or to a photovoltaic system.

So why shouldn't we dare the change!

Realisation

Tiger/volt was founded in 2019 by a Burkinabè and a German in Ouagadougou. Starting point was the idea to bring electric motorcycles to the capital of two wheels, because the growing dissemination of photovoltaic panels suggests to charge the motorcycles with solar power.

Burkina Faso is facing a transformation of its energy supply. Renewable energies, especially solar energy, will take center stage in the future. Tiger/volt will accompany this process - "Harvest the sun." is our motto.

Cheap energy in abundance will offer a lot of opportunities. Our African background on the one hand and the European on the other hand allow us to find promising opportunities and check their suitability for everyday use - what matters is what meets the needs of our customers.

We observed, evaluated, and we acted. And this is how we will continue to work in the future.
